President Biden's federal gas tax holiday is a temporary gimmick that will result in artificially increasing gasoline prices by increasing demand, further erode the Highway Trust Fund, which has already been hit with higher costs from inflation, and does nothing to change his anti-oil regulatory policies which undermine long term investment and increases costs in oil and natural gas development. —Michael
UPDATE regarding today’s decision by SCOTUS; opinion by Michael Ramirez,
The rule of law has prevailed.
Roe was always built on a shaky legal framework without a constitutional foundation and returns those decisions back to the states.
While Justice Blackmun cited Persians, Greeks, Romans and 13 century English authors and the Hippocratic oath in his majority opinion in Roe, it is notable that he did not quote a provision in the constitution.
As Justice Alito wrote for the majority, "The Constitution makes no reference to abortion and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision..."
Those who use Stare decisis as a pretext to defend Roe as a precedent and "settled law" would have to admit that in past cases like Brown vs Board of education and Loving v Virginia it is perfectly appropriate to overturn precedents that are built without a firm constitutional foundation.
Roe was built on a foundation without any constitutional pillars.
The broad right to privacy implied by the 14th amendment was never meant to relate to abortion.
Justice Blackmun himself made that admission in his opinion on Roe stating, "The Constitution does not explicitly mention any right to privacy." Yet, he uses his broad interpretation of privacy to find a new constitutional right in language never intended for a debate on abortion.
Even liberal scholars, including Justice Ginsberg, have admitted it was a faulty decision. She criticized Roe as the wrong case to build a case to legalize abortion and characterized the precedent as going too far, too fast.
As Byron White wrote in his dissent in 1973, "the court simply fashioned and announces a new constitutional right for pregnant women and, with scarcely any reason or authority for its action, invests that right with sufficient substance to override most existing state abortion statutes."
Rehnquist wrote in his dissent, "to reach this result, the Court necessarily has had to find within the scope of the Fourteenth Amendment a right apparently completely unknown to the drafters of the amendment." He concluded, "the drafters did not intend to have the Fourteenth Amendment withdraw from states the power to legislate with respect to this matter."
The Supreme Court has properly overturned Roe and affirmed the Constitution.

Biggest News of the Day-as reported by John Hinderaker at Power Line:
The Supreme Court released its opinions in the Dobbs case this morning. Consistent with the leaked draft by Justice Alito, it overrules the Roe and Casey decisions. You can read the opinions here. I haven’t had time yet to review Alito’s majority opinion to see how closely it conforms to what was leaked.
The vote was 6-3, with Chief Justice Roberts concurring in the result. He would have upheld the Mississippi statute without entirely overruling Roe. Justices Thomas and Kavanaugh wrote concurring opinions.
Left-wing extremists have vowed to riot tonight. We will see whether they carry through on that threat.
UPDATE: The Supreme Court is having a great week!
We are huge fans of Power Line, and cannot recommend it highly enough.
