Editor’s Note: Republicans rarely get to be the “fun” party. Whether it’s stuffy optics or reprioritizing after a simultaneously excessive and slothful presidency like Biden’s, they don’t get rainbow parades celebrating their miraculous existence. They don’t get to sniff down their noses at their opposition that it “costs nothing to be kind”. They don’t get to cut off their friends and families for differences in ideology or opinion, and they don’t get to waffle endlessly without getting anything done. In short, republicans are the party who always have to be the adult, taking action and making difficult decisions and getting yelled at for many of them. I’m trying to move through the dawn of this administration by remembering just how much they have to work on, not even counting new problems or unforeseen consequences of that work, and remembering that what I want to see cannot all happen overnight.
