From America's Premier Editorial Cartoonist
The alternative. -Michael
Editor’s Note: There is a phrase that is poison in any debate, driving it immediately into a ditch with wheels skyward and spinning. It can be articulated verbally, paraphrased, or even communicated without words and through body language and contempt, alone.
“I will never change my mind on this.”
What a thing it is, to openly admit that no argument, no matter how factual, well-reasoned or resonant, will make you budge in your beliefs.
A frustrated friend told me the other day that democrats’ biggest problem of many is their stubborn elitism. At the risk of sounding like a populist (I’m not, I fully understand why we elect representatives), the will of the common voter does matter, whether or not they closely follow politics or have a college degree. Not only have democrats been eager to paint the opposition as idiot buffoon hicks, but they have gone so far as to paint many of their natural allies as the opposition. How many feminist, gay, and lesbian voices have found a platform on the right after being driven from the left over a few small bones to pick? I know those voices are legion, because I follow and often boost them.
The smartest democrats are making efforts to reach across the aisle on some of their most unpopular positions. The most stubborn are doubling down on those unpopular issues. As a result they might not see reelection, and they will blame the unwashed masses for their downfall. Don’t we know that democrats are the smartest ones in the room, and our job is to just nod and accept their claims as the absolute truth no matter how absurd they sound? Common sense is no less valuable just because it contains the word “common”; only an elitist would see it that way.

Thank you for supporting Michael’s editorial cartooning and writing at this great independent space. And thank you, most of all, for standing up for free speech and truth, both of which are under attack everywhere.
We’ll see you soon with more of Michael’s work, and as always, let us know what you think in the comments, or drop us a line at ramireztoons@gmail.com
As you can imagine, we receive many emails, and Michael reads everything you send with one exception: I regret that I cannot share your cartoon ideas. As an editorial artist, every original cartoon he publishes must spring from within his mind, though I will happily forward your good wishes, complaints, concerns about issues, or opinions about politicians who seem to make a mess of everything. Michael tries to keep his finger on the pulse of America, so what’s on your mind? What can we do better? Let us know in the comments or by emailing the editor, Bree Lindquist, at breelinguist@gmail.com. We would love to hear from you and will do our best to respond soon.
Best,
Melissa Praemonitus (personal manager for Michael P. Ramirez)
