REPUBLICANS NEED TO PICK BATTLES THEY CAN WIN Melissa Praemonitus, July 14, 2021
To be sure, there is plenty of voter fraud on all sides; the rich rewards of victory in politics guarantee it. However, demands for recounts and claims of fraud garner diminishing returns over time as the public psychologically settles on a single leader. Those who continue to insist the election was stolen, a la Bush/Gore, will end up marginalized. At some point, it’s the wiser course to build a consensus on eliminating holes in the system like “vote harvesting”, and lax I.D. laws.
One of my pet peeves is the misunderstanding of what constitutes an audit of the vote. A machine or hand recount of ballots is not an audit; it’s simply recounting all the votes, both real and fraudulent. An audit requires scrutiny of the voter rolls and cross-referencing to the actual poll record. Did Sally Smith actually mail in her ballot, did she appear in person, or does she really exist? Voters’ addresses are verified, they may be contacted to ensure they actually voted, the dead are expunged from the record. Audits can provide proof that enough fraudulent voting occurred to throw the results into question, but at a prohibitive expense. Since state-wide audits will not occur, Republicans need to fight a battle they can win. Now is the time to take advantage of popular agreement on election integrity laws.
From Glenn Greenwald:
Trump supporters were led down some rabbit holes. But they are absolutely right that the institutions and power centers of this country have been monopolized by a Regime that believes they are beneath representation, and will observe no limits to prevent them getting it. I encourage people on the Left to recognize the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in front of them. You’re not going to agree with the conservatives on everything. But if in 2004 I had told you that the majority of the GOP voter base would soon be seeing the folly of the Iraq War, becoming skeptical of state surveillance, and beginning to see the need for action to help the poor and working classes, you’d have told me such a thing would transform the country. Take the opportunity. These people are not demons, and they are ready to listen in a way they haven’t in a long, long time.
Years ago, I was invited to participate in a small event that included interaction with the great Andrew Breitbart. He said at the time, that division would end only when conservatives were willing to recognize consensus on issues and build upon that to create new coalitions that were outside of political manipulation.

FLIGHT OF THE TEXAS DEMS
Democrats seek to manufacture a frenzy to normalize the irregularities of the 2020 election. It’s all about the federal electoral takeover that would be worked by the enactment of H.R. 1.
Somebody revved up the animatronic Joe Biden in Philadelphia yesterday to decry Jim Crow and otherwise pervert American history in the service of the frenzy. Does anybody in his right mind buy this shtick? They must be counting on the persuasive power of repetition combined with robotic sincerity.
More than 50 Democratic Texas legislators have absconded via two chartered jets to Washington on Monday to foil the adoption of an election reform bill by the legislature, in which Republican majorities prevail. This has to be a losing game. Governor Abbott is a persistent guy and he has a game plan.
Byron York considers the seeming irony in “Dems against democracy.” Byron observes: “The Democratic lawmakers are, in other words, throwing a wrench in the workings of democracy….And here is the kicker: They are frustrating the will of the majority, and the rights of Texans whose votes made Republicans the majority — in the name of voting rights!” read the rest here
